Master P: Only God Can Judge Me
Only God Can Judge Me is yet another lousy-sounding, all but
bassless offering from the No Limit cartel. With lyrics consisting of every
gangsta cliché and catchphrase Master P and his cohorts can conjure, this disc
will appeal only to those starving for lowest-common-denominator rap and
Southern hip-hop chauvinists. Vowing to stay ghetto fabulous forever, Master P
invokes his clips from Fortune (not to mention his movies, celebrated in a line
that compares him, favorably, to Spielberg). When not boasting of his riches
and his crew loyalty, the P slows the beat down for "Ghetto in the
Sky," a rank imitation of Tupac's more thoughtful moments, and
"Ghetto Prayer," a typically overdramatic meld of the gospel and
wholly hollow playa "regrets." One or two more CDs as awful as this
one, and Master P's stock is sure to drop as hard and fast as Puffy's did.
