Made up of players from Lionel Hampton's band, Toshiko Akiyoshi's Jazz Orchestra, Jimmy McGriff, Sun Ra and other credentials, N.Y. Hardbop Quintet play a spirited yet smooth style of bebop. That's not to say the intensity isn't quiet up to the band's billing, it's just more polished and less temperamental than the title entertains. Nicely done. |
