Lila McCann Something In The Air
The sophomore jinx is the fear of any artist working on their second album. We've seen more
than a few artists smash onto the scene and then fall into the trap of recording a lousy second
release (these unfortunate artists will remain nameless, though another teenager comes to mind).
Lila McCann isn't one of those artists. In fact Something In The Air puts her firmly in the role of
the teen vocalist to beat.
This twelve track collection displays an improved artist and one with the ability to really hammer
home a tune. The breath taking "Kiss Me Now," captures the eager anticipation of a first kiss.
The rowdy "Crush," is just a lot of fun to listen to. The inspirational "I Will Be," rivals some of the
powerful messages found on Lila's debut release. McCann takes some time to offer a friend
relationship advice with the pack your bags and go storyline of "Go Girl." The albums title track
"Something In The Air," served as a flashback to the days of Debbie Gibson's innocent pop
sound. Lila plays a little word game with "Rhymes With," you can tell she had fun making the
record.
"I Reckon I Will," is one of Lila's first co-writes and it's a fun, light hearted piece of music. Lila
also helped write "Can You Hear Me," another one of the albums better tracks. The Bryan White
and Steve Wariner penned "You're Gone" is a real tear jerker. "When You Walked Into My Life,"
is a really powerful love song delivered with a stunning vocal.
Lila McCann is good, almost to good. There is no doubt after the two albums that she has put out
that she is a force to be reckoned with. She's hands down the best teenage vocalist in country
music today and is a contender for best contemporary country vocalist as well. May I make a
suggestion? Get this album right now. It's one of the best collections of modern country tunes to
hit the shelves in a long time.
