Philadelphia Orchestra

Clearly identifiable for its sumptuous string sound and overall virtuosity, the Philadelphia Orchestra was founded in 1900 and has long been in the vanguard of promoting symphonic music in American life. Its history includes such podium giants as Stokowski and Ormandy. The orchestra has premiered a number of contemporary classics and has a widespread discography. It is the first major orchestra to cybercast a live concert on the Internet. Here's a selected list of concerts from the first half of the season. Check out our recommended recordings of works being played.
