Blues Legend Grace Brim Dies

Blues Legend GRACE BRIM passed away recently, she was 75.

Obituary: GRACE BRIM - 1924 - 1999

[25 Sep 1999] Blues drummer and vocalist GRACE BRIM was best known for performing and recording with her husband, Blues Legend JOHN BRIM. They were married in 1947 and Grace performed and recorded with John from 1948 until the early 70's. Grace played drums on John's classic 1953 Chess Recordings, including; "Lifetime Baby", "Tough Times", and "Ice Cream Man" (later recorded by the rock group Van Halen) featured on the Chess LP "Whose Muddy Shoes" (Elmore James and John Brim).

Grace recorded and performed with many blues icons including; John Brim (Fortune 1950 featuring Grace on drums and vocals, Random 1951, JOB 1952 & 1954, Parrot 1953, Chess/Checker 1953 - 1956, BB 1972), Snooky Pryor, Eddie Taylor, Jimmy Reed, Big Maceo Merriweather, Roosevelt Sykes (Random 1951), and Sunnyland Slim (JOB 1952).

Grace performed with the "John Brim and His Gary Kings" on bills with blues icons like John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson, Eddie Boyd, Willie Mabon, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, Willie Dixon, Elmore James, Homesick James, Robert Lockwood Jr., and many more during the heyday of Chicago blues.

Blues writer Pete Welding said of Brim's classic Chess recordings - "Relaxed yet forceful rhythm and beautifully tough character".
