King's New Album, "Let the Good Times Roll -- The Music of Louis Jordan" to be released October 5 - New "B.B. King's Blues Club" Set to Open in New York
City's Times Square.
MCA Records Press Release Sept. 30 -- The King Of The Blues turned 74 on September 16, and in his own extraordinary style, B.B. King continues to thrill, as he wraps his annual
summer tour and prepares for several special performances, a new album release,
and the debut of a new B.B. King's Blues Club in the coming months. B.B.
celebrated his birthday at New York City's Beacon Theatre, where his
multi-artist B.B. King Blues Festival Tour stopped for the evening.
The tour will conclude in St. Louis on October 3, with B.B. heading to
Cleveland for a press conference and performance at the Rock & Roll Hall Of
Fame's All-Star Louis Jordan Tribute Concert on October 4, kicking off the Hall
Of Fame's week-long 1999 American Music Masters Tribute To Louis Jordan, "At
The Swing Cat's Ball: Louis Jordan's Rhythm & Blues." B.B. will join
fellow Jordan admirers Ruth Brown, Bo Diddley, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Big Jay
McShann and others for the concert at the Allen Theatre. B.B.'s new CD, Let The
Good Times Roll - The Music Of Louis Jordan, is set for release October 5 on
MCA Records. Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee B.B. King has long been a
fan of the late jazz/blues/swing vocalist and saxophonist Louis Jordan, who is
credited with bridging the gap between rhythm & blues and rock & roll
with his humorous and irreverent musical style.
B.B. will perform music from his new CD at the Concert Of The Century in
Washington, DC on October 23, joining Eric Clapton, Aretha Franklin, Bono and a
host of other top artists for the all-star concert. President and Mrs. Clinton
will host the celebration to benefit VH1's Save The Music campaign, which
provides resources to foster musical education programs in American schools.
B.B. is featured as the fictional Blues Master in the upcoming CBS Television
Network miniseries salute to the birth of rock & roll, Shake, Rattle &
Roll, set to air over two nights, Sunday, November 7 and Wednesday, November 10
(9:00 PM ET/PT both nights). The original soundtrack to the miniseries,
including B.B.'s newly recorded version of the previously unreleased Bob Dylan
song "Fur Slippers," will be released on MCA Records on October 26.
In a move that is decidedly more fan-friendly than many other artists' New
Year's Eve high-priced concert plans, B.B. will perform a free outdoor concert
on Beale Street in Memphis to ring in the New Year. B.B. began his career in
Memphis 50 years ago, as a DJ and performer on the pioneering Memphis radio
station WDIA.
On November 3, PBS will broadcast B.B.'s recent taping of "In Performance At
The White House," featuring a selection of B.B.'s signature songs as well as
"Let The Good Times Roll" from his new CD.
A new B.B. King's Blues Club & Cafe is scheduled to open in New York City's
Times Square before the close of 1999. The club will join established locations
in Los Angeles (Universal CityWalk) and Memphis (Beale Street) to provide a
home base for B.B. and his band when they head to New York, and will continue
the B.B. King Blues Club tradition of providing nightly blues entertainment in
a friendly and fun environment.
