From the beginning, the Offspring have been a punk rock band. Having grown up in California influenced by the likes of the Dead Kennedys and Social Distortion, whom they toured with, blasted off into orbit with the success of Smash. After that, instead of playing to 100 people, they were playing 5,000+ venues. After a split with Epitaph records, The Offspring signed with Columbia who keeps a hands off approach to the band. When an album is finished, they hand over the music, artwork, touring schedule, videos, they control the whole process. Their first Columbia release in 1997, Ixne On The Hombre, demonstrated the bands mass appeal once again. The latest, AMERICANA, reflects on the different views and trappings of American culture. Already platinum, the album shows no sign of slowing down.

Dexter Holland and Greg Kiegel started the band when they wanted to get into a Social Distortion show. But they couldn't get in the show because they did'nt really have a band. When they finally started a band in 1984 they didn't even have any instruments. The band that they started was called Manic Subsidal. They all so had two other guy who are not in the band any more. The old drummer could'nt be at all of the concerts so Ron Welty the current drummer kept on naging Dexter to let him replace him so Dexter finally gave in. When Kevin (Noodles) joined he was a cleaner at a local school. When all four of the members were in the band they decided to change the name to The Offspring. In 1989, Offspring released their first album, The Offspring. After that they tried to get a better record company. They found Epitaph and re'released there first album The Offspring. In 1992 they released another album Ignithion with Epitaph. In 1994 they released another album Smash which sold more than 8,000,000 plus. Smash was also released with Epitaph. Offspring and Epitaph began fighting which forced Offspring to look for another record company. So Offspring signed with Columbia and released Ixnay On The Hombre which was released in January 27 in Australia and Febuary 4 in America. The highest position it has reached in the Australian charts is No.2 and the first single All I Want reached No.15. Columbia paid more than $10,000,000 for the rights of the new album. Ixne features Dead Kennedys Jello Biafra doing the tracks Disclamer and Intermission.
