FOLLOW THE LEADER is the follow up to KORN'S previous two consecutive platinum albums. 1994's self titled debut and 1996's LIFE IS PEACHY, hitting #3 on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Each album earned grammy nominations for "Best Metal Performance", Shoots & Ladders from KORN and No Place To Hide from LIFE IS PEACHY.

KORN ON FOLLOW THE LEADER

Jonathan Davis
We made it heavier and more groovin.. And it's funky now-not like traditional funk, but it's dancey, man. It's fuckin bad. It's totally off the wall. It's like old-school KORN, except way better. It's putting chaos into music. All the sounds are all dissonant and just fucked up. It's not really all in key. It all melts together into something that's got melody.

FIELDY
We're using a lot of new sounds. But as far as the riffs go and the grooves, they're slowed down a lot and really heavy. We were going for a whole other level. So we thought we'd try a new producer. We really liked working with Toby, and we'll probably end up doing another record with him. He was on our level. He had good ideas, and he had a good ear for tone and all that crap.

James MUNKY Shaffer
We needed to push ourselves to a different level and take a chance. It was like jumping over a ledge and hoping you make it to the other side. Now we're looking back and going, I can't believe we did it. We are all just ready to make that great leap forward, it's like growing out of some old shoes. Your feet are crammed, and you know that you need to buy a new pair, but you need to save up the money to do it. We kind of saved up our confidence and made that leap into our new shoes. On a personal note, I would like to gain respect from our fellow musicians.

Brian HEAD Welch
I think the fact that we have two strong guitar players in the band makes our sound more interesting and more creative, like when MUNKY thinks of stuff that I wouldn't think of and vice-versa. I don't like to play without him. It's like we're one person. It's weird.. I just want respect mostly for this record from people..

DAVID
These songs have the phattest grooves we've ever done. I like my playing better on this record, it grooves more. This time, I played with more of a tribal-style.

And working with gansta rap artist Ice Cube turned out to be a dream come true for KORN. Especially for Fieldy, the arbiter of hip-hop for KORN. It wasn't like I thought it would be, explains FIELDY, I thought it would be more intimidating to work with him. But he was more like us, it wasn't intimidating at all. It was like working with another member of KORN. Fieldy noted in a recent AP cover story, We really need to find a name for this shit. When I run into people who are older than 35 that ask what we sound like, I just go, we're heavy metal. But if it's a younger, hipper person, I'll take my time and say it's heavy groove with hip-hop undertones, but then people will think we're a fuckin hip-hop band with a rapper and shit.. As drummer DAVID also explained in that story, people are gonna call us metal because we're KORN and that's what they already think. We feel different, but that doesn't matter. This one's like a more melodic version of our first record.

KORN is currently headling The Family Values Tour with Rammstein, Ice Cube, Limp Bizkit, and Orgy.
