Korn - Follow The Leader
Grade: A
By Jess Redmon
The gods of heavy continue to redefine metal with the apocalyptic grace of Follow
The Leader. Korn packs an adrenaline rush of murderous sounds to inflame your senses
far beyond comprehension. The vocal wrath of Jonathan Davis guides this bullet train
down the dark side of your soul with such malevolent anthems as "Got The Life" and "My
Gift To You." Their first two records showed the beginning of something special, yet drug
on without much variety. Follow The Leader still has their undeniable vibe and sound,
but adds an arsenal of new sounds and surprises to make this one of the most important
metal records of the 90s. Their hardcore assault stares you in the face with a horrified
delight on songs like "Dead Bodies Everywhere" and the Ice Cube featuring "Children of
the Korn." Not all of the songs are true classics, the insult contest between Davis and
Limp Bizkit front man Fred Durst on "All In The Family" has some novelty, but lacks
quality and poise. For the most part however, Follow The Leader is brilliant. Korn
continues to reinvent the world of heavy and refine their sound on one of the most
powerful albums of the year.
