Blink-182 - Enema Of The State
Grade: B+
By Tom Laplaige
In their new release "Enema of the State" Blink 182 taps into the frequency that made
"Dammit" so good. The upbeat and energizing guitar riffs mixed with dynamic verse and
chorus make an album that emits the same active vibe as last years summer anthem
"Flagpole Sitta." Humorous lyrics about diarrhea, aliens and sodomy fit in perfectly with
the carefree, jump up and down mood of the album. Songs like "Dysentary Gary," "Don't
Leave Me" and "Dumpweed" exude a raw garage punk feeling while "Aliens Exist" and
the record's first single "What's my age Again" bring out a more polished and clean cut
sound. Blink 182's new album has a tight grasp on all that is modern day punkrock: the
energy, the cynicism, the power chords and fun mixed in with a touch of rebellion. If you
are looking to spend your summer sitting in your room feeling sorry for yourself, "Enema
of the State" is not the album for you. But for those who want to have their kicks before
the shit hits the fan (or next September, whichever comes first), this album will provide a
backdrop for all of your summer pleasures.
