Creed Remains On Top As Live Makes Big Chart Debut

Proving that last week's debut was no fluke, Florida rockers Creed will once again top next week's "Billboard" album chart.

After besting new arrivals from Garth Brooks as well as Method Man and Redman by selling more than 315,000 copies of "Human Clay" last week, the band will retain the number one spot after selling an additional 190,000 units according to sales figures released by SoundScan on Wednesday.

The band managed to hold off a strong first-week push from Live, who debuts at number four with "The Distance To Here." The Pennsylvania alt-rockers moved more than 138,000 copies of the album to score the week's only top ten debut.

Melissa Etheridge also managed to crack the top 20, landing at number 12 after selling more than 99,000 copies of "Breakdown." A few slots behind, the Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck debuts as his "Uncontrolled Substance" lands at 19 after moving more than 74,000 units.

Other notable debuts include Paul McCartney's "Run Devil Run" at 27, David Bowie's "hours..." at 47, and The Misfits' "Famous Monsters" at 138.

Fred Durst Sounds Off On System Of A Down-Family Values Split

When the news came last week that System Of A Down had been booted from the Family Values tour, finger pointing was sure to follow.

As we first reported on Wednesday, the progressive metal outfit was to meet up with Family Values on October 16 and play the remainder of the tour. However, the band was dropped from the tour, prompting System's management, Velvet Hammer, to blame Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, whose band is currently headlining the tour.

The management company claims that Durst was trying to sign another Velvet Hammer band, Michigan's Tap Root, to Interscope Records. Velvet Hammer charges that when Tap Root decided to shop around for a better offer, Durst took out his displeasure with the band and Velvet Hammer on System Of A Down by dumping the group from the high-profile tour (see "Did Durst Dump System Of A Down From Family Values Tour?").

At the time of the move, Limp Bizkit's management, The Firm (which also presides over Family Values) declined comment, however Durst himself recently spoke with the MTV Radio Network about the matter.

"System Of A Down is no longer on the tour," Durst explained. "We love System Of A Down, but we can't stand their manager, so he's the piece of sh** that got them off the tour." [RealAudio]

If there's a bit of bitterness floating around about the whole matter, both parties seem to be moving on with their lives. Family Values will fill the slot vacated by System by extending Staind's run on the tour, while System Of A Down will now hook up with Filter for a U.S. tour that kicks off on November 6 (see "Staind Out, System Of A Down In For Filter Tour").

System will then head off to Europe for a tour that begins in mid-December and is currently weighing its options for 2000. One engagement is definitely locked in on System's calendar: the band plans to spend the early part of next year writing material for a new album.

Danzig Breaks From Legal Limbo With New Album, Re-Releases, Tour Danzig RealVideo

After seeing his music career hung up in legal limbo for almost three years, Glenn Danzig is free at last and plans to make up for lost time.

Danzig and the band that bears his name spent the last few years tussling with two different record labels, so perhaps it's not surprising that the group is looking to an unconventional outlet for its upcoming album. The metal mainstay is teaming with emaginemusic.com to release "6:66 Satan's Child," the band's first album since 1996's "Blackacidevil." Users can now head to the site to pre-order the album, which arrives on November 2.

The group headed to Simi Valley, California last weekend to shoot two videos for the album, lensing clips for "Five Finger Crawl" and "Unspeakable." The band will push the album even further with a tour that kicks off on October 19.

Danzig had been wrestling with his former record label home, Hollywood Records, in attempt to leave the label and take with him all the material he had recorded for it. While dealing with Hollywood, Danzig was also taking on American Records (the band's label prior to its deal with Hollywood) in an attempt to wrestle back material that has never seen the light of day.

"Part of all this legal stuff I went through is I got everything back from Hollywood: all the music videos, any footage they shot, any live recordings they did, I got 'Danzig 5: Blackacidevil,'" Danzig explained to MTV News. "I [also] got a ton of stuff back from Rick Rubin [and American Records]. All the material he's never released came back to me so any unreleased tracks... all the live recordings, all the home videos and the MTV-style videos we did, there's a documentary movie that we did which was supposed to come out, but never came out. Just lots and lots and lots of stuff." [RealVideo]

As a result of these moves and the band's deal with emagine, fans who have been looking for "Blackacidevil" (which went out of print shortly after its 1996 release) will soon be able to snag the album courtesy of the Web site.

The venture will also see the reissue of Danzig's "Black Aria" as well as the complete catalog of Samhain, Glenn's short-lived pre-Danzig outfit. Danzig said that a long-awaited Samhain box set should arrive before the end of the year, and he has lined up a Samhain reunion outing to trumpet the effort. When Danzig heads out this fall, he plans to play a 45-50 minute set with Samhain, and then headline with a full Danzig set.

Did Durst Dump System Of A Down From Family Values Tour? Serj Tankian of System of a Down

Progressive art rockers System Of A Down have been booted from the Family Values tour, and as is often the case, the reasons for the move are up for debate.

System Of A Down's management claims that the band was dropped from the tour by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, whose band is currently ruling the Family Values roost. Velvet Hammer Management (which handles System) told MTV News that Durst was courting another Velvet Hammer band, the Michigan rapcore outfit Tap Root, as part of his A&R duties at Flip/Interscope Records. Velvet Hammer claims that Durst was eager to sign the band, but Tap Root had hoped to play a few showcase gigs for other labels to test the market. The management company claims that Durst then took out his dissatisfaction with Tap Root and Velvet Hammer by dropping System from the Family Values tour.

The Firm, the management company that handles Limp Bizkit and Family Values, confirmed that System is off the bill, but offered no comment on the reason for the move.

System was slated to join the tour on October 16 in Portland, Oregon and stay on board through the rest of the Family Values run. Now, the band's next live dates will see System play three shows in Los Angeles on November 17 at the Whisky, 19 at the Troubadour, and 20 at the Roxy.

The Firm told MTV News that Staind will now extend its Family Values stint to pick up the slack.

System is also currently contemplating offers from other tours and will head to Europe in mid-December for a string of dates that will conclude with the band opening for Black Sabbath on that group's two farewell shows in Birmingham, England.

The news comes as System is seeing its 1998 self-titled debut album begin to gather steam on the chart. The release resided at number 194 two weeks ago, then leapt to 169 last week, and this week bounces to 125 after watching its sales swell from 7,000 per week to just under 12,000 per week. In the process, the band is closing in on a total of 180,000 copies sold.

Filter Maps Out Post Family Values Tour Filter's Richard Patrick

While there's still more than three weeks worth of shows and thousands of miles to go before this year's Family Values Tour concludes, Filter has already mapped out plans for its own fall tour, starting on November 6 in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Joining Filter for the month's worth of dates will be one its Family Values tourmates, Staind, who has just had its run on the Limp Bizkit-fronted tour extended after System of a Down was dropped from the bill.

Filter is also getting ready to shoot a video for its next single, "Take a Picture," and the group is currently reviewing clips and treatments from potential directors.

Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst In Talks To Direct Teen Thriller Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst

After directing several of his band's music videos, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has reportedly agreed to direct a big screen project for Warner Brothers.

According to "The Hollywood Reporter," Durst will receive a six-figure sum to direct "Nature's Cure," a teen thriller being written by Chris Kletzien, and which is described as a mix between "The Breakfast Club" and "The Game."

Durst has already cut his directorial teeth on such Limp Bizkit videos as "Faith," "Nookie," "Re-Arranged," and the band's upcoming clip for "N 2 Gether Now," scheduled to premiere on MTV in mid-October (see "Fred Durst, Method Man Duke It Out In New Limp Bizkit Video").

"Nature's Call" is still in the early stages of pre-production, as the script has yet to be completed for the film, so it wasn't immediately known when Durst would take a break from his musical endeavors to slide into the director's chair.

Limp Bizkit is currently out on the road, headlining the 1999 edition of the Family Values Tour, and has just announced dates for its own fall tour with Method Man and Redman, scheduled to kick-off on November 4 in Tampa, Florida.
